Form Camps

In the world of distance running, proper form and mechanics are often overlooked in coaching corners or as references to beginners to the sport of distance running. Distance running is unique in that it is one of the only sports that does not start with training in the mechanics and proper form. In most other sports (ie-basketball, football, baseball, tennis etc) mechanics and form are foundational teachings that start the journey of most athletes. The assumption in the running world is that anyone can run, and while this may be theoretically accurate, the technical aspects of form are usually not paid attention to and the sport is fraught with form inefficiencies and injuries because people do it incorrectly.  That is why Redline Resistance is introducing FORM CAMP! Coach Josh Melver is a USATF certified running coach, High School Track and Field/Cross-Country coach and has been training runners of all ability and experience levels for 15 years. He is partnering with some other experts in different fields of running and being one of the first to incorporate his methods and training into a formal curriculum that will be presented in 1 week camps that will include 10 hours of instruction.

Form camp is for one week (Monday thru Friday). Each day is 2 hours long and will focus on 1 of the 5 different areas of stride development:

  • Foot strike
  • Hip placement
  • Arm/shoulder carriage
  • Torso posture
  • Terrain adjustments

Participants will go through a 5 step learning approach for each area of focus to improve the stride efficiency topic of the day by breaking it down into the following:

  • Underlying scientific/biomechanic explanation
  • Stretching
  • Strengthening
  • Drills
  • Live application practice
 

STUDENT FORM CAMP

Camp is for student athletes and teams for Middle and High School Cross Country and Track.
